In my early days of working out I used to eat a lot of food and used protein weight gaining powder in between meals. This seemed like a good idea at the time as I was gaining some pounds to my skinny frame. After awhile all those pounds were going straight to my gut. I was bigger but so was my waistline! I have found through the years with some experimentation that the best method for me in maintaining an ideal weight is to eat five to six smaller meals a day. On my workout days I add a protein shake as a meal that day. This works for me. If anyone out there is having a problem with maintaining a proper weight for them then maybe this is worth a try for a period of time. Next post I will get into a little bit about my workout routines and how I rest the aging body.

The Exercise Routine
When I first started working out in my late teens I tried the home exercise gym routine. I had a weight bench and a barbell with a few weight plates along with a few dumbells. This seemed to work at first but the distractions at home are many and they really gave me an excuse to not workout. I later got introduced to a local gym. This is where I believe that I built my foundation for the discipline of continuing my exercises to this day. Now this is what worked for me. Everybody is different and I cannot say what will work for you. But whatever choice you decide on, the exercise at home or the exercise at the gym, just do it and it can become a regular routine that can really help your health and fitness to improve. I would also like to get into the diet and exercise discussion but I will save that for anther post.

Diary of a diehard exerciser
This is my first posting of my exploits of aging and the exercise routine. I have been working out for years and have finally decided to write a blog about my experiences. I don't know why I get up at four o'clock in the morning and head down to the local gym to exercise. I guess after all these years it has become a routine that is hard to break. Maybe I just don't exactly know what motivates me and some of the other early birds that show up at the gym at such a time. We sometimes ask each other why we do it and we don't have an answer. Next post I will talk a little about the home exercise equipment that I worked out with in the beginning years and the debate over exercise at home or exercise at the gym.
